DEUTSCHES JUGENDHERBERGSWERK LANDESVERBAND BAYERN - SUPPORTING NATURE-BASED CLIMATE SOLUTIONS

The Deutsches Jugendherbergswerk Landesverband Bayern e.V. (DJH Bayern) has a long-standing tradition of fostering community and learning. For nearly 100 years, DJH Bayern has been providing spaces where people of all ages can explore, learn, and grow together, while also promoting responsibility towards nature and society. This philosophy is deeply embedded in their operations, with a strong emphasis on sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.

As a forward-thinking organization, DJH Bayern sought to deepen its commitment to sustainability by addressing the carbon footprint associated with its operations, particularly the environmental impact of its facilities and activities. The organization recognized the importance of integrating effective climate action into their operations, not only to reduce their carbon footprint but also to inspire and educate their guests about the importance of sustainability.

DJH Bayern partnered with FORLIANCE to invest in the CO₂OL Tropical Mix reforestation project in Panama. This nature-based carbon project focuses on transforming degraded lands into healthy, biodiverse forests, which sequester carbon while providing numerous social and environmental benefits. The project was selected for its alignment with DJH Bayern’s values of education, community engagement, and environmental responsibility. 

The CO₂OL Tropical Mix project involves reforesting degraded land with a diverse mix of native tree species, promoting biodiversity, and restoring ecosystem functions. The project not only sequesters significant amounts of CO₂ but also supports local communities through fair employment opportunities and sustainable income from certified timber and cocoa production. 

By investing in the CO₂OL Tropical Mix project, DJH Bayern has taken a significant step towards making real climate action happen. The project’s contribution to carbon sequestration directly supports DJH Bayern's commitment to sustainability. Furthermore, the investment has helped raise awareness among the organization's visitors and stakeholders about the importance of protecting natural ecosystems and engaging in responsible travel.
