SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

WHAT ARE THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGS)?

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. The 17 SDGs are interconnected; action in one area will affect outcomes in others, and development must balance so

KEY CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SDGS

  • Universal: The SDGs provide a universal framework applicable to all countries. Every nation faces unique and common challenges on the path to sustainable development, and the SDGs address multiple dimensions of sustainable development globally.
  • Transformative: Together with the 2030 Agenda, the SDGs represent a significant shift from traditional development models by integrating economic, social, and environmental dimensions.
  • People-centric: The SDGs are designed to ensure no one is left behind, promoting universal respect and equality within and between countries.
