Sport Thieme FINANCING NATURE-BASED CARBON PROJECTS

Sport-Thieme, headquartered in Germany, is a leading distributor in the institutional sports sector. They supply sports equipment and educational materials to schools, clubs, and other institutions worldwide. Committed to balancing profitable growth with sustainable, responsible actions for present and future generations, their partnership with FORLIANCE marks a significant step towards achieving their climate action goals.

Sport-Thieme faced the challenge of addressing their unavoidable carbon emissions while ensuring their operations remain sustainable and environmentally friendly. The goal was to find a robust and impactful nature-based carbon project to reduce their carbon footprint.

FORLIANCE partnered with Sport-Thieme to manage their unavoidable emissions. Sport-Thieme financed carbon removal through the Sumatra Merang Peatland Restoration Project. This project aims to restore peat swamp forest in Merang, Indonesia, protect a large and diverse area, preserve one of the last remaining peatlands in South Sumatra, and address degradation caused by commercial agriculture and illegal logging. It promotes reforestation and assisted natural regeneration while also supporting community development with improved healthcare access, new employment opportunities, and educational initiatives.
