ABOUT THIS PROJECT

SAFEGUARDING MEXICO'S LUNGS WITH LOCAL COMMUNITIES

XiCO2e: Durango Forest Project, which spans 284,927 hectares, is a beacon of environmental stewardship in the Sierra Madre Occidental. With its primary focus on carbon storage enhancement, this initiative plays a crucial role in mitigating climate change by preserving and restoring vital forest ecosystems. By addressing the imminent threats posed by illegal logging and natural disturbances, the project not only safeguards biodiversity but also ensures the provision of essential ecosystem services.

Moreover, the Durango Forest Project serves as a catalyst for socio-economic development, particularly in rural Ejidos communities. Through improved forest management practices and job creation initiatives, the project empowers local residents, providing them with stable livelihoods while promoting gender equality and community resilience. By fostering a harmonious relationship between environmental conservation and economic prosperity, the project exemplifies a holistic approach to sustainable land management, setting a precedent for future conservation efforts in the region.
