ABOUT THIS PROJECT

INTEGRATED PROJECT DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT

We conducted a comprehensive Public Private Partnership (PPP) project for large-scale afforestation of arid areas in Egypt, using sewage water for irrigation. This project, part of the develoPPP.de program by GIZ, aimed to generate additional income from wood, biomass, energy crops, and carbon trading. Our services included scouting suitable project areas, developing investment plans, and implementing irrigation systems, planting, and capacity building.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The DesertTimber project focused on transforming arid lands in Egypt through afforestation, creating sustainable sources of income and positive environmental impacts. By enhancing soil and water conditions and preventing desertification and erosion, the project contributes significantly to local ecological stability. The initiative also involved close collaboration with local universities and research centers to ensure the effective execution of the project.

IMPACT AND BENEFITS

This project aimed to generate economic benefits through the production of wood, biomass, and energy crops while simultaneously trading carbon credits. The environmental benefits included preventing desertification, improving soil and water conditions, and enhancing local biodiversity. Through our strategic planning and implementation, the DesertTimber project set a benchmark for sustainable afforestation practices in arid regions.
