INNOVATIVE FORESTRY INVENTORY AND ANALYSIS

We conducted a comprehensive assessment of Acacia Mangium plantation growth in Colombia using advanced drone technology. This project aimed to create a detailed forest inventory, leveraging the efficiency of drones for data acquisition and analysis compared to traditional field measurements. The drone data collected were processed and analyzed with statistical software to calculate the standing timber volume of the plantations. 

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Our services included acquiring aerial drone images and ground control points for precise orthorectification, as well as sample field plot data such as the number of trees, height, and diameter at breast height (DBH). We created a 3D point cloud and high-resolution mosaic, generating a digital canopy model (DCM) based on the digital terrain model (DTM) and digital surface model (DSM). This comprehensive analysis enabled the calculation of standing timber volume and the creation of various maps detailing tree numbers, height, DBH, volume, and mean annual increment. 

IMPACT AND BENEFITS

This project provided an accurate and efficient method for monitoring and mapping large-scale forestry projects. By using drone technology, we significantly reduced the time and resources required for data collection. The statistical validation confirmed the high accuracy of the drone data, making it a reliable tool for forest management. Our advanced techniques ensured precise and actionable insights for effective management and planning of the Acacia Mangium plantations.
