This project combines local reforestation initiatives in Germany with measures in the regions of the global South most affected by climate change. It not only promotes the protection and restoration of forests, but also makes it possible to balance unavoidable emissions through the use of carbon credits.
Re-Spire Westerwald, Germany
The project area is located in the Palatinate part of the Westerwald and has been massively damaged by storms, droughts and bark beetles since 2018. Through the establishment and long-term maintenance of climate tolerant tree species and an adapted wildlife management, it is being ensured that a climate-resilient mixed forest develops on these areas, storing carbon in the long run, providing high-quality habitat and recreational space, and promoting biodiversity.
Brazil Nut Rainforest REDD+ Project, Peru
The Brazil Nut Rainforest REDD+ Project, located in the Madre de Dios region of south-eastern Peru, aims to reduce deforestation and forest degradation, promoting sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation. By adding value to timber through healthier and more productive forests, the project ensures the economic development of 405 Brazil nut concessionaire families, providing stable income opportunities for the communities.
