ABOUT THIS PROJECT

SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENT IN MEXICO

The XiCO2e: Mexican Reforestation Project, located in the states of Tabasco and Tamaulipas, aims to reforest degraded areas by improving subsistence-driven activities and enhancing living conditions. Agricultural lands with reduced use or abandoned lands have been reforested, leading to improved ecosystem health and increased biodiversity. By replanting degraded areas with Gmelina arborea, the project prevents further deterioration and soil erosion by providing protection through vegetative cover. The project offers new opportunities to more than 70 landowners and generates new livelihood opportunities. The activities related to forest plantations and management provide employment with decent work opportunities to local communities. These forest activities will have a positive impact on the livelihoods of local people.

What makes this project stand out:

  • Empowering local communities through sustainable forestry and economic stability
  • Catalyzing regional growth with job creation and skill development in forest management
  • Revitalizing degraded lands by enhancing biodiversity and soil health through strategic reforestation
  • Aligning with Mexico's national development plan to create employment and reduce poverty through responsible practices
